Antique Dining Room Suite
Great, 1920's formal dining room suite. Includes china closet, buffet, table and chairs. This suite would go well in a restored Victorian home, or a modern home with a large formal dining room.
The china closet (76" tall) has two drawers, and the dish-storage area is cedar lined. Two 12" leaves accompany the table, and custom table pads sufficient to cover the table and leaves are included. Table measures 42"x64" without leaves, and 42"x88" with both leaves installed. The buffet (72" long) has three center drawers and two side doors for lots of storage. All original hardware (brass?) There are six, original mohair-covered high-back chairs, one with arms.
The legs and cross bracing of all pieces of this sturdy suite are massively carved and ornamented. The set is in very good to excellent condition for furniture that was in constant use for most of its life. The mohair is beginning to show a few tatters, but most people recover antique furniture upon acquisition.
Table and buffet tops are very nice, although there is a spot on each one where, apparently, someone in the past sat a hot dish without a protective pad. However, the damange is minor and these spots should be easily repaired by someone who knows how to work with wood. There are a couple of minor chips on the edges of some drawers. Except for the two leaves, none of this furniture has been refinished. With minor, but knowledgable work, suite could be restored to original condition.
Basically seats six, easily seats eight, in a pinch could seat 10!
